Childhood Health & Wellness

The Childhood Health & Wellness Program will build on the highly successful Childhood Cancer Campaign to expand our impact. Clubs and Districts will now have the opportunity to initiate projects and services to improve the quality of life for children in their communities across a broader spectrum of needs.

The Childhood Cancer Campaign was established by Optimist International in 2001 with the mission of “being the leading force to rid the world of childhood cancer.”

Tri-Star Sports

This is an optional activity Clubs can sponsor that focuses on three skills competitions in each of the following sports: basketball, baseball, soccer, football, hockey, golf, curling, and volleyball. More detailed information about Tri-Star is available in the Tri-Star Planning Guide.

Youth Appreciation
Optimists recognize youth for a variety of reasons, including their achievements at school, dedication to community service, improvement in their grades and doing their best in sports or the arts. This activity allows Optimists to build the self-esteem of the youth in their community and show them that their efforts and hard work really do make a difference.

Oratorical Contest
Topic for the 2019-20 school year is: Just iMagine a World without Boundaries Youth under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2019 (and is not enrolled as a degree seeking student of a post-secondary institution) in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. There is no minimum age.

Topic for the 2019-20 school year is: "Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?" Youth under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2019 (and is not enrolled as a degree seeking student of a post-secondary institution) in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. Topic for the 2019-20 School Year is : Just iMagine a World without Boundaries The contest is open to young people through grade 12 in the United States and Canada, to CEGEP in Québec and grade 13 in the Caribbean, who are educated in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean.

Youth Safety
This activity includes teaching youth about important safety issues that they encounter every day, such as traveling in a car or on the school bus and riding their bike. Optimist events such as a bicycle rodeo can make learning safety skills fun for everyone involved.

Youth Safety Poster Contest
These materials can be modified to fit a poster contest on any topic or theme. The project will take approximately 8 weeks to run from start to finish and will need at least 2-5 Club Members working on it.
Video Contest
The Reel Optimism Video Contest is an annual video contest for Optimist Clubs and Junior Optimist Clubs to represent their experience of being an Optimist in a creative and powerful way. Each year features a different topic. Participate for a chance to win a Club Grant!
Optimist Visual Arts Competition
This exciting new program is designed to encourage and celebrate youth visual art skills in two categories – painting and drawing. Scholarships will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the OI level for each category.
