My Fellow Optimists,
We are now 1 year old and preparing for our Annual Membership Meeting next month (see details below). Many of you may be wondering what all did we do in the past 12 months? I am glad you asked. We have been laying the foundation for the next 100 years of Optimism. We believe that starts now by responding to a world that is waiting on us. Therefore, we are creating a campaign to spread optimism in a very needy time and to grow by 100,000 members and volunteers within the next 12 months. I can hear it now, has Herb been drinking? And Yes! I have been drinking some very good optimist juice. And I want you to drink with me, consider this:
- The world needs us now more than ever and if we are even going to promote Optimism we have to do it now or forever hold our peace. We can spread hope by simply offering our creed free to a starving world.
- The board have authorized GLOBAL OPTIMIST PARTNERS, a campaign to seek volunteers around the world with the same psychographics as ours – those wanting to provide a positive vision and serve their communities. Get ready to say hello to our new volunteers and membes.
- We are now submitting an application to a major bank for a large grant to spread optimism in the world, build 1,000 new Optimist Clubs and do joint community projects together.
I am going to need your help, so I’m asking you to please think Optimistically – these times can be very fruitful for us, in spite of COVID-19 and the psychological impact it made in our minds. Look at the Sunny side of things, it has been a great blessing for many of us because it has caused us to slow down and think about what really matters. You know we only have one life to live, but it is enough if we do it right. The good life we seek is to help others by providing optimism and hope to a fearful world.
We’ve also done some exciting things. We have provided six scholarships for the oratorical contest for kid in Africa. We have build a brand new optimist club called Dar Optimist (Detroit Association of Realtors), we have ordered 500 masks that say “optimists, is contagious, catch it.” So year, we have been busy planning and moving projects along and as you know all of you have been invited to attend the board meetings the 3rd Sunday of every month from 7 – 8 pm as we discuss strategies. So, get ready for a year of growth.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being optimistic please…stay safe and wear masks.
Let us remember our Charter Member Ted Gaffin, who passed away this month, he was a great Optimist and a great friend.
Yours truly,
President Herb
